- ➤ Hollywood Casino Joliet is running a contest for local nonprofits to win a hosted gala valued at over $60,000 — the event will feature food, table wine, audiovisual production and staffing plus 40 hours of volunteer time, and it will be held next year in the new 10,000-square-foot event center. Eligible Illinois 501(c)(3) organizations must enter by Sept. 30. Herald-News

- ➤ Plainfield community members held a dedication ceremony on Saturday to honor 6-year-old Wadee Alfayoumi, who was fatally stabbed in a hate crime when Joseph Czuba attacked him by stabbing him more than 24 times—prosecutors said Czuba also called his mother a devil Muslim during the attack. - ➤ Local family members and community leaders gathered Saturday at Van Horn Woods East Playground to dedicate a monument honoring 6-year-old Wadee Alfayoumi, who was fatally stabbed on Oct. 14 in a hate crime—officials said the memorial is meant to preserve his memory and call for unity. - ➤ Citgo’s Lemont Refinery donated $4,000 to the sheriff’s office to support its K-9 unit+ the funds will help hire a new officer to replace retiring K-9 Riggs. Sheriff Mike Kelley said the donation will keep the unit fully staffed+ ensuring it remains a vital safety resource for the community. Herald-News
