University of Illinois Extension offers two free webinars this fall: Ecology at Your Home on Aug. 13, 1 p.m., with Abigail Garofalo boosting local outdoor ecology, and Community Science in Your Backyard on Oct. 1, 1 p.m., where Amy Lefringhouse and Erin Garrett explain citizen data collection.

Will County's Regional Office of Education will host two free backpack giveaway events to help local families with school supplies. The first event will take place on Friday, July 31 (10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Early Learning Center in Crete) and the second will be held on Thursday, Aug. 6 (4 to 6 p.m. at Brooks Middle School in Bolingbrook) where a parent or guardian will be required with each child; free dental exams will also be offered at the Crete location.

Will County Animal Protection Services is offering free spay, neuter and microchip services for pets whose owners receive LINK or Social Security Disability benefits. Eligible residents may apply at the office at 22452 S. Cherry Road in Joliet or at one of 14 participating veterinary offices.
