Good morning, Plainfield.
Will County’s Imagination Library received a $25,000 donation from an Elwood-based clean energy company to support its free book-gifting program for local children—county officials said the funding is a key step toward reaching a $150,000 goal to expand early literacy programs.
The move is part of a broader effort announced last December to bring the program to all county communities.
The Forest Preserve District of Will County is hosting a free bird viewing program at Lake Renwick Heron Rookery Nature Preserve in Plainfield today from 8 a.m. to noon.
Staff and volunteers will help attendees spot herons, egrets, and other birds during the nesting season — the program runs each Saturday through August 9.
A rabid bat was found in Monee and the Will County Health Department warned that rabies can be fatal if untreated (residents should avoid contact with bats) and advised calling animal control immediately if a bat is found at home (even if no bite marks are visible).
Regional sports teams won several contests on Friday as Lockport baseball won 8 to 3 with Nick Moerman going 2 for 2 (he helped secure the win) and Lincoln-Way softball teams earned victories (adding to a busy day) while area athletes also competed in badminton, track, volleyball, lacrosse and water polo.
