EDUCATION NEWS

  • Plainfield East High School band and choir students left Sunday for Disney World to perform at the Thanksgiving Day Parade at Magic Kingdom and the Candlelight Processional at EPCOT—68 students in all—and will return late Saturday.  Herald-News
  • Lawmakers in Illinois face a potential $747.9 million increase in the K-12 education budget if all public funding requests are approved—these include a $68.5 million plan for new literacy programs, additional funds for special education, multilingual education, and early childhood block grants. The school board received input at recent hearings while Gov. Pritzker asked agencies to reduce spending by 4% amid federal uncertainty.  Shaw Local

  • State Sen. Meg Loughran Cappel partnered with state Rep. Natalie Manley & state Rep. Dagmara Avelar to host a collection of food and hygiene items to help those in need in Will County, and donations can be dropped off at various locations across the county.  Herald-News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox earned its 22nd consecutive A rating for patient safety from the Leapfrog Group—an independent nonprofit that uses clear rules based on medical errors and infections. The rating was updated recently—showing the hospital’s strong focus on keeping patients safe.  Herald-News
