- ➤ Will County will host three fall and holiday craft fairs in October and November that offer crafts, baked goods and fundraise for youth and school programs. Trinity Lutheran Church in New Lenox will host a free fair on Oct. 18th from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. — the Plainfield Band Boosters will hold their 27th annual craft show at Plainfield High School Central on Oct. 25th and 26th with a $5 admission for adults and over 200 booths, and St. Mary Immaculate School in Plainfield will host its Handmade Holiday Market on Nov. 8th with a $3 entry fee. - ➤ Plainfield East seniors Kyleah Edison and Rishi Shah have been named National Merit Scholarship semifinalists for 2026. They join over 16,000 students nationwide, and about 95% will become finalists in February as they compete for 6,930 scholarships worth nearly $26 million. Herald-News

- ➤ The Forest Preserve District of Will County has announced a week of nature programs starting Oct 16 that include an owl observation event, a deer hike, trout season festivities, a group bike ride, and a jack-o’-lantern history lesson, followed by a sunrise hike on Oct 19 & registration is available online by each event's deadline. - ➤ Metra directors released a tentative $1.1 billion operating budget for 2026 that includes planned fare hikes of up to 15% to cover a projected revenue gap — prices on day and monthly passes will increase effective February 1 — while lawmakers review a possible transit bailout in November.
