- ➤ Plainfield’s special census has been put on hold due to the federal government shutdown, as operations were paused on Oct. 1. The census was started after officials estimated a 10% population rise since the 2020 census—updates on when it will resume will appear on the village website. Herald-News
- ➤ The Illinois Department of Revenue warns that residents are receiving text messages claiming a processed tax refund and urging them to verify their banking information—official communications are sent only by mail or through secure online accounts. Herald-News
- ➤ Texas National Guard soldiers used a training site south of Joliet yesterday to prepare for their planned deployment to Chicago under a 60-day Federal Protection Mission—200 troops were mobilized by the U.S. Department of War. Will County officials said they received no federal coordination and will work with local leaders ahead of a Thursday court hearing—this move has raised local concerns. Herald-News
