- ➤ Free annual mental health screenings will be offered in Illinois public schools for students in third grade through high school starting in the 2027-28 school year following Senate Bill 1560 signed by Gov. JB Pritzker on July 31. Some school leaders still have questions on funding, staffing, and procedures (parents may opt out) as they work to ensure early mental health support for students. Shaw Local

- ➤ Will County Judge Jennifer Lynch did not dismiss the case against Joliet Councilman Juan Moreno and postponed a hearing for a temporary restraining order until Friday at 10 a.m.—the case claims Moreno did not meet the residency rules before he was elected. Herald-News
