Yesterday, Aug. 18, the Herald-News presented the Will County Pets of the Week with profiles of six adoptable animals — including Krypto, Maestro, Benji, Ozzy, Oolong, and Gingko — and detailed each pet's age and care needs to help families choose a suitable companion.

The 122nd annual Will County Fair opens on Aug.
21 at the fairgrounds in Peotone with Family Day featuring $1 admission, free parking and shows such as magic at 2 p.m. and a ping pong drop at 6 p.m.—the event will continue with free entry for seniors and veterans on Aug. 21 and fun activities on Aug. 22, Aug. 23 and Aug. 24 including a scramble race, demolition derby and rodeo.
🏥 Health
Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox had its stroke program recognized by the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association for its high-quality stroke and diabetes care — it received awards for best practices, quick treatment times, and up-to-date care.
The program is one of 2,600 participating in guidelines that reduce treatment delays and partners with the University of Chicago Medicine to improve emergency care.
