- ➤ Legislation to rescue transit passed the Senate but failed in the House, leaving Metra, Pace and CTA facing possible 40% service cuts and reduced night and weekend schedules. Lawmakers noted a $1.50 fee on online deliveries—sometimes called a pizza tax—was added at the last minute, and they will resume bipartisan talks this summer to address the budget shortfall. - ➤ Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson and local officials celebrated Monday morning the groundbreaking of a nearly $1.5 billion project — a pipeline that will run over 60 miles from Durkin Park to deliver Lake Michigan water to communities including Joliet. Joliet Utilities Director Allison Swisher said work on related projects will begin next year and the full system is expected to serve local faucets by 2030. Herald-News
