  • Will County police held the Cop on a Rooftop fundraiser for Special Olympics Illinois on May 16, collecting a total of $53,213. Plainfield police raised about $13,000—contributing to an effort that brought funds directly to Special Olympics Illinois.  Shaw Local

CRIME NEWS

  • Lockport man Dartavius Payton pleaded guilty to second-degree murder for fatally shooting Todd Taylor in Joliet on April 28 (2020) and was sentenced by Will County Judge Vincent Cornelius to an 18-year term with effective release expected after about four years thanks to prior jail credit.  Herald-News

  • Museum Campus Day is a drop-in event at Isle a la Cache Museum that will run on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 501 E.   • At the Plainfield Plan Commission meeting on Tuesday, one commissioner questioned how the Comprehensive Plan—adopted in October 2024—fits with the proposed 118-unit Playa Vista Townes project at the southeast corner of Ridge Road and 135th Street. The developer is finalizing public notices for the townhome project, which will include two-story homes, a new 135th Street entrance and improved pedestrian access along the Wikaduke Trail.  Shaw Local
