John Prevost from New Lenox said he was shocked when his younger brother Robert was announced as pope on Thursday afternoon, and his phone, iPad and cellphone overflowed with calls and messages.
He recalled a light conversation about papal names and noted that his brother devoted years to missionary work in South America—marking a new chapter in his life.

Police from across Will County held a memorial ceremony on May 8 at the former county courthouse in Joliet to honor 38 officers who died in the line of duty since 1865.
