- ➤ A special prosecutor said that negotiations are in progress in a felony theft case against former CEO Theodore “Ted” Brodeur, who is accused of stealing from Big Brothers Big Sisters of Will and Grundy Counties — authorities have not confirmed the exact amount. Herald-News

- ➤ Plainfield School District 202 named Stefan Bjes as its first director of safety and security—bringing over two decades of law enforcement experience—who will start on May 27 to lead safety drills and training at 31 campuses. Herald-News

- ➤ Eastern Avenue will be closed to traffic today at the CN railroad crossing from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday (CN is completing repairs this weekend) according to Plainfield Police. Shaw Local
- ➤ Will County is joining five forest preserve districts and two park districts in a bike safety initiative that promotes responsible riding during National Bike Month, with the first event happening today from 3 to 7 p.m. at Centennial Trail — Schneider's Passage in Romeoville. A second safety event will run from 9 a.m. to noon on May 17 at Hickory Creek Preserve — Hickory Creek Junction Access in Frankfort Township and will offer safety tips and e-bike guidelines.
