SPORTS NEWS

  • Plainfield South beat Coal City 9+3 on April 10 as pitcher Regina Glover praised her team’s strong defense, which featured key plays by third baseman Katie Beu and left fielder Peyton Isaacson. Coach Taylor Schwall said the team built its lead after a scoreless first inning and kept adding runs.  Herald-News
  • Head coach Craig Dixon — in his first year — led Bolingbrook baseball to a 6 to 2 win over Joliet Central on Thursday as star pitcher Pharrell Weekley struck out eight while helping rebuild the team's discipline. The Raiders will play at Plainfield East on Friday.  Herald-News
  • Providence Catholic baseball team—defending 4A state champions—won the WJOL Tournament last weekend to move to a 6—1 record, but coach Mark Smith said the team is disappointed with its start and will work on its hitting. Senior Blake Jenner added that players must stop routine errors and that pitchers will be limited to 40—45 pitches as they prepare for play in May.  Herald-News
