GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Voters in Will County cast their ballots on April 1 for community positions that affect schools, fire departments, parks + libraries. Mail-in and provisional ballots will be counted over the next two weeks while write-in ballots may not be tallied on election night. Herald-News
- ➤ Joliet Township Animal Control will offer pet adoptions at discounted fees during Spring Into Adoption Saturdays on April 5, April 12, April 26 and May 3 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., setting fees at $40 for dogs and $20 for cats (medical fees still apply). Families must bring a completed application and meet their dogs with new pets before finalizing adoptions. Herald-News
- ➤ Will County clerk Annette Parker said that 14% of the 453,563 registered voters cast ballots by 4:40 p.m. Tuesday with 32,173 casting in person plus 17,192 voting early and 14,724 returning mail-in ballots; she noted that early voting increased while in-person turnout was low. Parker explained that mail ballots may arrive after Tuesday because they were sent out just two weeks before the election plus the consolidated election was certified only after March 12. Herald-News
- ➤ On Tuesday, April 8 the Dresden Nuclear Station will conduct an emergency response exercise for personnel from Illinois, Will, Grundy and Kendall Counties + Constellation Energy. FEMA will assess government units and hold a public meeting at 11 a.m. Friday, April 11 at the Grundy County Emergency Operation Center on Union St. in Morris. Herald-News
