ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Monday, Plainfield Fire Protection District responded to a fire at a vacant restaurant in the 24500 block of Lockport Street at 5:06 p.m.—arriving within four minutes, firefighters quickly extinguished the exterior blaze while damage spread into the attic, leaving the building uninhabitable with repairs estimated to exceed $200,000 and no injuries reported as investigators examine the cause.  Herald-News

  • SCORE Fox Valley Chapter was named Illinois District 2025 Chapter of the Year and SCORE Central Region Chapter of the Year for its growth in free mentoring and classes for local entrepreneurs — it held over 3,500 mentoring sessions and increased workshop attendance by 103% in 2024 — while serving eight local counties.  Herald-News

  • A Joliet man is charged with firing his gun at a family party on Sunmeadow Drive in Plainfield after a dispute over remarks about his leather pants, injuring three and now facing three aggravated battery charges + an unlawful weapon possession charge.  Herald-News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lane changes and ramp closures began Monday on I-80 in Joliet and New Lenox as construction workers set up a new traffic pattern—drivers encountered lane shifts and delays. The ramp from southbound I-55 to eastbound I-80 will reopen in fall 2026 while the ramp from northbound I-55 to westbound I-80 is scheduled to open this fall—overnight one-lane restrictions were also in effect on Tuesday.  Herald-News
