ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A 6-year-old child died in Joliet when an ATV lost control and struck a tree—officers arrived at 5 p.m. on Mission Boulevard—and an 8-year-old passenger was uninjured.  Herald-News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Plainfield educator Jennifer Gruca of John F. Kennedy Middle School was named Teacher of the Year for the Far South Suburbs region by the ISBE — she was honored with 13 colleagues at a March 8 reception in Bloomington-Normal. Her award recognizes her lasting impact on students, families and fellow educators.  Herald-News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Will County Board approved a measure to use cannabis tax funds to upgrade 21 local high schools by reinforcing each school’s busiest entrance with bulletproof glass (costing between $3,000 and $4,000 per building). Regional Superintendent Dr. Lisa Caparelli-Ruff said the project’s first phase used $70,000 and that future phases will secure middle and elementary schools (plans are underway).  Herald-News
