➤ Auxiliary Bishop Dennis Spies was named apostolic administrator for the Diocese of Joliet after Bishop Ronald Hicks became archbishop of New York. Spies, who served at St. Mary Immaculate Parish in Plainfield from 2005 to 2008, will lead the diocese until a new bishop is appointed. Herald-News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

➤ Will County’s Forest Preserve District received a Silver Ribbon Award on Jan. 30 for restoring over 600 acres at Lockport Prairie and Prairie Bluff, a project that took six years in partnership with the Army Corps and Resource Environmental Solutions LLC. The restoration improved rare prairie habitats for endangered species. Herald-News
