EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Student loan forgiveness will be taxed from 2026, potentially costing Illinois borrowers up to $10,000 unless lawmakers act to decouple state taxes. This policy change follows a federal update to the American Rescue Plan Act that expired last year (Dec. 31). Shaw Local
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Illinois State Treasurer Michael Frerichs urged residents to check the ICash website for missing money after National Unclaimed Property Day on Sunday, Feb. 1—about one in four adults reportedly find unclaimed funds. The site is open 24 hours and families are encouraged to check names of loved ones for funds. Herald-News
